Higher Education, Lower Opportunity

In the article Higher Education, Lower Opportunity, the author begins with a description of education 250 years ago.  This is effective because the author shows how education has transformed in those 250 years.  He describes how without the 14^th amendment, which grants all born in the U.S. are granted citizenship, which influenced the decision in a 1982 Supreme Court case.  His main argument is that the education system is a “rags to riches” system.  He does a good job of giving examples and interviews with some of these students.  He uses these as his main argument to influence is opinion that Congress needs to pass a law in order to allow immigrant students the same opportunities as native born American citizens.
