Olivia Zimmerman
In-Class Story
English 110

… Then the wires from the bionic foot begin to creep up into her skin. She presses the eject button over and over but it is jammed. The wires dig deep into her leg and wind their way up and around her bones. The wires slither throughout her veins, climbing her spine like rungs on a ladder, spreading to her toes and the tips of her fingers until finally she can feel the wires inching up her neck, groping for her brain.
Hobbeleah feels the foot starting to take over control. Slowly, but surely the wires are invading every neuron in her brain. Thoughts of fear and confusion fill her head. Yet, at the same time the foot begins to invade her thoughts saying, “You must obey me! You must obey me!”
Soon her whole body, inside and out, is covered in wires intertwined to her muscles, veins, and skin. She looks as if she was created by some mad scientist. Her body begins to move on its own and Hobbeleah has no idea what to do. She still is able to think her own thoughts but the thoughts from the foot are growing louder and louder. The utter confusion is almost too much to handle.
As she begins to move toward her bedroom door, the Prince comes in and immediately lets out the shriek of a four year old little girl. “What the hell happened?!” he says not able to comprehend what he is looking at.
Hobbeleah looks at him with terror on her face. The foot is still in control, causing her to continue walking toward the door and out of the bedroom. The Prince follows her down the hall in disbelief. Hobbeleah cries, “Help me!”
The Prince suddenly jumps onto Hobbeleah’s wire infused body and tries to wrestle it to the ground. He doesn’t even move her an inch. She seems to have super bionic strength unlike anything the world has seen.
While the Prince is on Hobbeleah’s back, the wires begin to reach out from Hobbeleah and begin to crawl up his bionic legs and the same process happens to the Prince. The wires are like snakes crawling up his legs and then to his torso. Slithering into his muscles and intertwining with them. Then come the thoughts, invading his brain like a plague. He soon is transformed into a similar being as Hoobeleah. They don’t have any idea what is happening to them, battling their thoughts versus the machines thoughts.
They both walk in the foyer and out of the house and down the street. Hobbeleah and the Prince arrive at the park where Hobbeleah used to garden for her step mother. To their surprise they see the old fairy godmother sitting leisurely on a park bench. Hobbeleah yells in panic, “You must help us! We’re being taken over by our electrical prosthetics!”
The old fairy godmother doesn’t even flinch when she sees them, for she knows exactly what is happening. She is the one who gave them both their prosthetics. “I know what is happening. I have been waiting for this.”
“You knew this would happen?!” yells Hobbeleah furiously.
            “Well of course I did.”
“What is happening to us and why?” questions the Prince.
The old fairy godmother goes on to explain that they each were chosen by the League of Fairy Godmothers to carry out a very special task: to defeat all the evil step mothers from taking over the world. The step mothers had stumbled upon a new technology that would gain control of everybody in the world forcing them to do whatever the step mothers wished. This technology allows the step mothers to use tiny microscopic bugs to implant into everyone’s brains and control their thoughts. The fairies had known about this for some time but couldn’t tell anyone. They picked the perfect two people, one male and one female, to give the special power to. These two people happened to be Hobbeleah and the Prince.
Hobbeleah asks, “Why couldn’t you have told us this would happen before you gave us our feet and legs?”
“Because then you would have said no if you would have known the fate of the entire world rested on your shoulders.”
“Well if this is supposed to be for good, why were the wires taking over control of our thoughts and body movement?” the Prince asked to the fairy godmother.
“To show you what it will be like for the rest of the world. Each of your senses are much more in tune than anyone else. You each also have super-sonic speed and super strength. This is all so you can defeat the evil step mothers.”
Hobbeleah and the Prince realize that they really don’t have much of a choice and they are slightly flattered that they were chosen to try to save the world. So, they accept their challenge to defeat the evil step mothers from taking over the world and readily begin their quest.
They set out for Hobbeleah’s old house where the evilest of evil step mothers resides, for this is where the fairy godmother told them the secret technology was hidden. As they arrive at the huge gate, they look at each other and smile. They both easily leap over the fence into the courtyard of the mansion where the potential earth destroying technology is hidden.
“This might actually be kind of fun!” exclaims the Prince.
Hand in hand, Hobbeleah and the Prince knock down the 20 foot tall door and bust into the mansion. They walk straight up stairs and bust into the evil step mother’s room. There she is laying on her luxurious bed. She sits up so fast it’s as if she was in the exorcist.
“I’m sure you know why we’re here Mom,” Hobbeleah says sarcastically, “Where is it?”
The evil step mother looks at the Prince and Hobbeleah in disbelief. She’s never seen anything like them before. She is utterly frightened by them. Then she goes on to say, “I have no idea what on earth you are talking about, dear.”
            “Don’t give me that!”
The Prince walks up to the evil step mother, picks her up by her shoulders and raises her above her head and begins to shake her. Because of the Prince’s super powers, the step mother is in a great deal of pain. She winces and cries, yet she still pretends she has no idea what they are talking about.
As this is happening, Hobbeleah recalls that as a child she had seen her step mother go down to the cellar every single day. However, she was forbidden to ever even go near the cellar door. Since her step mother was a bit tied up at the moment, Hobbeleah walks down to the cellar and rips off the door.
The cellar is pitch black and any normal human wouldn’t be able to see. However, Hobbeleah isn’t a normal human anymore and is able to see perfectly fine. She continues down the cellar stairs to find a glowing case, almost as if it were radioactive. She reaches slowly for the box and is electrocuted. But her super bionic strength allows her to fight through the pain and lift the box off of its stand.
Hobbeleah takes a deep breath and slowly opens the box. This is what they were looking for. She hurries up to her evil step mother’s bedroom with the box in hand. “I found it! I found it!” she yells to her prince.
He looks at her with pure joy in his eyes. The evil step mothers have been defeated! The world is saved!
The Prince and Hobbeleah return to the park to once again find the old fairy godmother. They hand her the box with the secret technology and she thanks them. “I will each give you one wish to show my regards.” She says.
This one is easy. “I think we both want the same thing. I want a non-bionic foot and he wants two non-bionic legs,” states Hobbeleah.
            “Done.”
Suddenly the wires disappear from each of their bodies, Hobbeleah’s foot is a normal human foot and the Prince’s legs are normal human legs once again. They could not be more ecstatic. They thank the fairy godmother and walk out of the park to their castle where they live free of the ruling of the evil step mothers.
